When we are mistreated, the wound can travel in three directions.
We can turn it inward, unconsciously harming ourselves by internalizing the mistreatment, eventually believing that we deserve it and continuing to live in avoidance and fear. Or we can turn it outward, unconsciously becoming like the person who hurt us and passing the wound on to others in an attempt to protect our wounded ego through revenge. The third path is neither personalization nor identification. It is the conscious choice to move beyond the ego. Fear is replaced by awareness and empathy. Through
forgiveness, we protect our humane values and choose to break the chain rather than become another link in it. That's how we truly fight against evil: by refusing to let it poison our hearts, minds, and psyche. Breaking the cycle is the true act of defiance. 💪
