When Thinking Becomes Addictive

The person becomes addicted to control through the mind, and the mind becomes addicted to cortisol accompanied by the familiar vigilance.

Analyzing, planning, extrapolating, visualizing, assuming, calculating, imagining, and every other method the mind uses are attempts to endlessly reach for absolute control.

But it's never enough.

There's always another possibility to anticipate, another risk to calculate, another problem to solve. And when reality offers none, calm begins to feel unsafe. Less cortisol and less thinking mean lower defenses and less control.

So the mind invents threats of its own, keeping itself occupied in an illusory survival state where vigilance feels safe.
